Hemroids hurt! But the not so bad news is that they are treatable and relief is available. Read on to find out how to cure your hemroids.

Some day to day things you do could be making your hemroids worse. So before we even look at treatment, let's look at prevention. Are you:

* Eating spicy foods or caffeine, alcohol and nuts

* Rubbing after using the toilet, or wiping too hard

* When on the toilet, straining or pushing

* Remaining immobile by sitting or standing in the same position for a long time. Shift your feet, position or take a quick walk.

If you're doing any of these things, stop now! You're making your hemroid symptoms worse! Instead, try these dietary changes:

* Don't eat any of the foods listed above or any other foods you notice that cause your piles to get worse

* Include a healthy dose of fiber in your diet. This will make it less likely you'll strain at the toilet.

* Consume at a minimum 8 glasses of water each day so your bowel movements are softer.

When you do have a flare up, it's important to treat it immediately so it doesn't get worse.

One of the most common hemroid treatments are over the counter medications, like Preparation H or Tucks medicated pads. However, the ingredients of these medications indicate they may not be safe for extended use.

Instead, consider hydrocortisone creams. These are anti-inflammatories, so they'll help bring your hemroids down.

Pain relief can come in the form of a cream with zinc oxide, with is very soothing and contained in baby diaper rash creams.

Some drugstores also have numbing sprays in aerosol form you can use to help quell your pain. I've not had much success with these, but it's worth a try when you're hurting.

You'll also want to make sure your patting down the area rather then wiping or rubbing after going to the bathroom. Baby wipes can be a great solution here, as they are gentle on your skin.

The numbing and decrease of swelling caused by icing the area for 10 minutes is a great way to relieve pain, and can be done several times per day. Sitz baths are another option. Simply laying down to prevent muscle strtain is a good idea too if your hemroids are very bad.

Keep the area dry (cotton under clothes are good for absorbing body moisture) and stop using any soaps with colored dyes or perfumes, as these can all irritate the skin.

These simple steps will help your hemroids, but always ask a doctor before starting any new medical treatments.
