Do You Have Scarcity Thinking?

One of the most powerful laws of human outcomes is that we attract into our life what we habitually think about. Most people have developed a habit of scarcity thinking and don't even realize that they are doing it. Let's have a look at how you can recognize scarcity thinking.

All thoughts can be categorized as either abundance thoughts or scarcity thoughts. When most people think of abundance they assume that it means the same as wealth but abundance can apply to any attribute.

For the purpose of achieving a happy life we use the word abundance to refer to positive attributes only. In other words, attributes that enhance your life in some way. This could be financial abundance but it could also be an abundance of good health, or personal fulfillment, or happiness, or good relationships, or anything else that makes living your life more enjoyable and rewarding.

Scarcity thinking is any thinking that takes your mind away from abundance thinking. Typically it will be thinking that focuses on things like financial difficulties, sickness or physical discomfort, dissatisfaction with your life, unhappiness or boredom, problem relationships or no relationships, and anything else where you are focusing your thoughts on aspects of living that don't enhance your life.

Let's take money as an example. Most people say that rich people are obsessed by money but in fact broke people tend to think about money a lot more than rich people do. The problem is that they are thinking about the absence of money in their life.

If you are experiencing financial difficulties it seems natural to be preoccupied with thoughts like "how am I going to pay the rent or the mortgage payment, or the car payment this month" and similar worries.

Even though most people in such a position are saying to themselves "how am I going to make the xyz payment" they are not really focusing on ways to obtain money to do that. They are in fact reinforcing the fact that making the payment is going to be very difficult and they are engaging in a bout of self pity.

Because they are actually focused on the difficult financial situation that they are in they are reinforcing the idea that they are living in scarcity, and so their subconscious mind is programmed that scarcity is normal. If your subconscious mind believes that scarcity is normal for you then it kindly obliges by ensuring that you live in a way that will maintain scarcity.

The same pattern occurs in health. The people who are spending a fortune on all the various vitamins, tonics and pills with the concept of practicing a preventative medicine approach actually get sick more often than the average person. The reason is that what they are really conveying to their subconscious mind is that the world is full of disease and I have a high risk of catching something so I have to take all this stuff.

When the subconscious hears this it comes to the conclusion that sickness is a normal part of life in this world so it kindly suppresses the immune system enough to ensure that you catch whatever current bug is going around.

The people who never even entertain the idea that they might catch something find that in fact they don't catch anything. Their subconscious mind believes that disease is not even an option for them so it ensures that their immune system is at peak performance fighting off anything that enters the system.

I wonder if you have a strong abundance thinking habit or if any of this type of disguised scarcity thinking is creeping into your mind. If you do have a habit of scarcity thinking then removing it will make life a whole lot more abundant for you.
