Taking Care of Ourselves

I am a living machine

that needs careful maintenance.

Without proper care

my warning lights will flash,

my ability to function

will be impaired.

I am a high-maintenance

living mechanism

which must be lovingly tended,

or I will certainly malfunction,

and ultimately

disintegrate.

Many of us take special care of everything in our lives except ourselves. It is as though we feel that our bodies are on auto-maintenance and will fix any malfunction without any further efforts on our part. The only time that we are apt to give ourselves the attention that is required is when we become ill or are in pain.

It is far better to treat ourselves as we do our cars and computers with preventative care.

Only with careful personal maintenance will we be able to function at the optimum levels of health and enjoyment that we all desire.
