A baby shower is not as simple as 1-2-3, since it comes in different kinds. Knowing what type of shower you will go for is one of the early steps that need to be tackled by you and/or mom-to-be, since many succeeding decisions are dependent on this, which includes choosing the right baby shower theme.

Shower type actually answers the following key questions:

Who to throw the shower for? When to throw the shower? Is mom-to-be having a girl/boy/twins? Will it be a face-to-face or online shower? Is it a surprise shower? Are the parents adopting?

This article is divided into two parts. This part will just tackle the first question, so be sure to find the second part so as to get the rest of the answers.

Who to throw the shower for?

There's no right or wrong answer for this one, since at the end, you and mom/dad-to-be are the decision makers regarding this. However, we will provide the more popular options available:

Mom Shower - the most popular among all shower types, since there are times when a woman needs to be surrounded by her girl friends, and a baby shower is definitely a good time for this. The guests will be purely female, who could either be single or married. Because this is the most popular, majority of available themes will work perfectly with this shower type.

Dad Shower - this kind of shower is becoming popular, and who could blame daddy and friends for wanting to have their very own baby shower celebration? Guests are usually men only, and of course, most of the activities should be considered properly, to make sure that it appeals to most of the guests. Since a man will most probably host this one, determining the right activity should not be a problem. The amount of food should also be more than what is usually provided in an all-female crowd. And of course, favors should be manly enough to appeal to your guests, unless you intend it to be a gift for your guests' wives/girlfriends.

Couples Shower - also called a coed shower. This is also becoming popular since soon-to-be parents just can't help but want to enjoy their blessing with other couples. It will be better if a couple will also host the activity (or at least get the two cents of one of the males). Activities should be couple-friendly, and you could do this by making sure that games could be played in twos or a group of pairs. Regarding the food, just ensure that you have plenty, and for your favors, anything that belongs to his and hers category is highly recommended for this shower type.

Family Shower - this is something like a family reunion, since everybody, from the host to the attendees, will most likely belong to the same family tree. Catching up with each other's lives will definitely be part of the program, just make sure that you don't forget that it is a baby shower in the first place, meaning baby/pregnancy-related activities are still necessary. Just ensure that they are all family-friendly.

We bet that this is not your first family reunion, so you should already have an idea how much and what dishes to serve. If you are still giving favors, something related to your family or your guests' immediate one is a good idea. A family picture will definitely be appreciated!

Grandparents Shower - having their first grandchild is also something that many grandma and grandpa-to-bes look forward to. So now that their wishes are soon to be realized, we think it's just right to celebrate the fact that at long last, s/he could now look forward to holding their grandchild!

Activities should consider that most of the participants are older, and of course, this should also be considered properly when preparing your shower menu. You don't want to serve good food that nobody could touch, do you? Favors should also be something that grandmas and grandpas will really treasure.
