Bulk cooking can be a great money and time saver. You can avoid the boring job of finishing work only to come home and have to start a second shift as you prepare supper. In addition, cooking in bulk leaves you with more time to spend with your family, and they will appreciate having a home-cooked meal as opposed to take-out or frozen pizza. You can choose when to cook instead of knowing it is a daily certainty, and you can prepare plenty of meals ahead of time. Here are some great tips for cooking meals in bulk.

Plan your meals around what is on sale at grocery stores in your area. Compare prices and try to select a meal menu that revolves around low prices. Do not go out of your way to get one sale item at a different store, unless it's a rock-bottom bargain, but rather do your shopping at two stores that will offer you a good combination of sale prices to reduce costs overall. Also, check out pricing at warehouse stores or clubs and see if the cost of food is not lower than the grocery store you usually shop at.

Read through the recipes you have selected, noting those that contain similar ingredients that you can prepare in one go. For instance, find all of recipes that include onions that need to be cut up and do the chopping up at one time. Do the same with sauces, dough, and anything that is similar. Cook, cut and separate any meat that is used in multiple recipes. Allow the food to cool off, then prepare each meal and cook as many as you are able to fit in the oven together. Continue cooking until all food is ready.

Storage of the meals is then up to you. However, if you intend freezing them, make sure that you use storage containers and bags that are meant for the freezer, so that your food does not get frostbite. You can also store food in freezer containers or glass dishes. Be sure to label what the food is and jot down the reheating instructions. Once you decide to eat a meal, take it out of the deep freeze, defrost it thoroughly and cook or reheat it in the oven. It is as simple as that.

Finding recipes for bulk cooking is as easy as using your computer and the Internet. Typing in 'bulk cooking' in a search engine will give you results of plenty of websites with great recipes everyone will enjoy together with more tips that are helpful. You can make your bulk-cooking day a family affair and delegate tasks to children and your partner. This can end up being some fun times spent together while you prepare meals that will keep everyone satisfied.
