Over the past decade, more and more products have become wireless. Wireless technology has become more reliable and much more popular for many reasons. The main reason for going wireless is simple, not having to deal with wires that can be a hassle to run through the walls or make the house look unclean. The same can now be said about wireless home security alarm systems.
Wireless home security systems are made for people who want a do-it-yourself system and do not want to fuss with all of the wires. Wireless detection units can range up to 1200 square feet, and can communicate up to 150 feet away from a base unit, even through walls. The wireless detection units work by using a wireless Radio Frequency (RF) which corresponds with the main master alarm unit. When the wireless unit is disturbed, it transmits a signal to the master unit which then sounds the alarm notifying everyone in the vicinity that there is an intruder. The master unit sirens a 105 decibel alarm, which is equivalent to a subway platform or just a bit quieter than an ambulance siren (120 decibels). Since most break-ins occur during night hours, the sound of 105 decibel siren will easily wake the household and in most cases the neighbors too. Every wireless unit has a big red panic button which sends the same frequency to the master unit to trigger the alarm if needed. The wireless unit has the back-up power supply to operate the wireless device for up to 12 hours after a loss of power. This is very convenient in the event of a power outage from a storm or sabotage of the power, either way the home or business will still be protected. In most cases the twelve hour battery back up will be sufficient to last until the power is fixed. Once the power is turned back on, the battery pack will automatically recharge until the next power outage.
Another convenient feature with the wireless detection unit is its ability to rule out pets as intruders. There is a pet shield that can be attached to each wireless unit which allows pets to safely roam around the home, but still detects humans. It is estimated that 63 percent of Americans own at least one pet, this feature is gives pet owners the same safety and security that everyone else receives. Once the decision has been made to secure the home with wireless protection, the next step is to choose the correct number of wireless monitors. It is smart to have enough wireless detectors to cover the entire house, but that might not be the most cost efficient route to take. It is recommended to have one wireless unit in the main living quarters, one that can easily monitor the front door and side doors. The master bedroom which most likely contains some jewelry and other personal artifacts should be covered too. The best solution would be to monitor all of the main level rooms; this could be costly if all the rooms are on the main floor. Other than the main floor, the master bedroom and the basement are the two other areas in which a wireless device is recommended.
Wireless technology continues to evolve and improve, making it a safe and smart choice for most homeowners.
