Let us become a nation ?

Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.

A controversy had arisen in 1947 when a set of Muslims started demanding ' Pakistan ' for the Muslims and the Britishers were happy to note this demand and they agreed for this bifurcation of Hindustan. They started persuading the Sikhs to have ' Khalistan' for them, but the wise Sikhs leading the community did not agree for this separate state for the Sikhs because the Sikhs were a mobile community and they were not centred at one place. They were found in each part of Hindustan and it was not possible to collect all of them in one area. The set of Muslims demanding Pakistan were desiring that the Sikhs may agree for the bifurcation of an area as Khalistan and they were offering them to have place in Pakistan under Pakistan. But the sikh leaders did not agree and they preferred to merge with India and this was their own choice and they did not agree for this merger under any pressure.
It is on record that the Sikhs adopted India as their own country and that is the reason they spread throughout in India and where-ever they established , they established permanently and they adopted the same way of life of that place and had been continuing as such since 1947.
On demand, Pakistan was created on 14th August, 1947, but it is on record that all the Muslims did not migrate to newely created Pakistan and they preferred to live in India and now they have adopted India as their home-land. They are getting all the facilities and they are not discriminated on the basis of their religion. They could rise to the seat of Presidentof India and even as Chief Justice of India.
But in spite of all this merger, we have noted that there had been 'Khalistan Movement' and in that movement about one lakh people had been killed and properties of crores of rupees had been destroyed or looted. The Sikhs who had been on forefront on each front in India lost this prestige and at times they were doubted as traitors. When Pakistan noted that all the Sikhs were not ready to join this Khalistan Movement, it left this movement and shifted its activities to Kashmir where it found fertile land for its activities and it is on record that Pakistan could continue its activities in Kashmir and making Kashmir as the base, it could spread its activities in each part of India and the people coming from Pakistan side are getting accommodation, help in money and in men, arms and ammunitions are supplied to them and when they conduct some attact they are given shelter to conceal themselves and that is the reason they are widening their area and now they could attack even our Parliament. And it is on record that they have actually attacked our Parliament.
We have got complaints that even Christians are trying to increase their number and certain cases of conversion have come to notice. Wew have also notieed that certain minorities are having a belief that the state is helping the majority and that is the reason we had to establish 'Minority Commission' to ensure that rights of minorities shall be protected. All these situations are creating troubles in our way to establish India as a Nation.
We have noted that when India is attacked, we all become one nation, but when we are in peace, we started doubting the integrity of each component. This is very bad, but, it is so in India. We are Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, Christians first and then we are Indians and we may note that each community in India has developed its own identity in dress, in language, in way of saluting each other and even in way of life. We can have a look on a man and immediately we shall recognise him as a Hindu, Sikh, Muslim or Christain and there is no sign which could establish his recognition as an Indian on first look. This is tragedy with us and we have wasted our six decades, but we could not become one nation. When there is terrorism in India and we complain that this all is being done at the instance of Pakistan, Pakistan immediately comes forward with the answer that it is not having any connection with terrorist activities in India. All those activities are being carried out by those who are demanding freedom from Government of India. When we talk of terrorism in Kashmir, Pakistan says to the world that all this is independence movement in Kashmir and it desires that people from other countries should ask India to hold 'Plebiscite' in Kashmir so that people of Kashmir could get independence.
So till Kashmir problem is there, we shall be facing all these difficulties from the side of Pakistan and therefore, time has come when we should write of Article 370 from our Constitution and make Kashmir full part of ;India and if need be we should go ahead and take back the occupied area of Kashmir from Pakistan,if need be, we can attack and take back our area because such a war shall not be a war against Pakistan. We shall be taking back our own area which is under illegal occupation.
Till Kashmir problem is there, there shall be terrorism and till terrorism is there we shall not turn a nation.
Our division on the basis of religion, castes, sub castes etc. etc. shall never allow us to become a nation. Our divisions are so permanent and dividing in nature that we have imposed ban on intercaste marriages and some sections of society have been designated as 'Dalits' and if some youths are found going astray, the parents can kill them, but would not tolerate that their wards should cross these barriers while marrying with socalled ' Dalits'. There are no chances that we shall be having one common religion and caste barriers shall be removed. These divisions are all barriers which would not allow us to grow as a nation.
