Although many members of the public are now realising the advantages of owning a personalised number plate, it's common knowledge that amongst the majority of buyers are celebrities. From the bottom of the "Z-list", right to the top of the "A-list", more and more household names are jumping on the personal number plates bandwagon.

Take England football star Wayne Rooney, for example, who proudly displays WAZ 8 on his Ł174,000 Aston Martin. Wayne acquire the nickname "Wazza" from his Manchester United team-mates. Unsurprisingly, Wayne Rooney isn't the only famous footballer to have purchased a personalised number plate. Some other names include the likes of David Beckham, Chris Waddle, Steve Staunton, Barry Venison, Vinnie Jones, Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane, Emile Heskey, Darius Vassell, James Beattie and Des Walker. Reading chairman John Madejski owns a variety of personalised number plates, saying: "I see them as an essential finishing touch to any prestigious car."

As you'd expect, footballers aren't the only celebrities to indulge in the world of personal number plates - Chris Tarrant, Nicky Clarke, Tommy Walsh, Linda Lusardi, and Engelbert Humperdinck are just a few of the celebrities who acquired their personalised number plates through Dunstable-based dealer Regtransfers.

So what is it that makes celebrities so fond of personalised registrations? As Linda Lusardi and her husband Sam Kane put it, "I think they're really nice to have. And I think when you just run out of gift ideas for people it's nice if you can find something like this."

Many of the celebrities who purchase personalised number plates like to display their profession on their plates. Take Iwan Thomas, for instance - the gold medallist 400m runner has R400 RUN displayed on his car, whilst Ground Force's Tommy Walsh proudly displays MRD 1Y (Mr. DIY) on the Ground Force truck. World famous magician Paul Daniels carries MAG 1C on his car, and is a firm believer in the qualities of personalised number plates.

However, it's not only celebrities who can afford the luxury of a personalised number plate. With plates selling for as little as Ł79, anyone can display personalised number plates on their car. With the industry growing in popularity, www.numberplates.com was launched as the ultimate resource for all things related to number plates.
