The established technique of getting traffic to your web page was getting on the first page of Google or Yahoo and waiting for everyone to search for your websites subject. Less emphasis is being put on search engines, today and more emphasis is being put on social bookmarking websites. What is a social bookmarking website you ask. Social Bookmarking websites are a layout where members cache lists of Internet information, which they find helpful. These lists are accessible to the public and others with equivalent interests. The lists of subjects are tagged with keywords that apply to the content of the material called "tags". This master plan has many advantages over normal search engine methods. All information and websites that are organized with tags are done by human beings who understand the content and not some search engine trying to figure out subjects of material through computer programs.

To give emphasis to the significance of social bookmarking websites I want to impart a true example and testimony that in fact happened to me. I put together an article a few months back on the subject of lucid dreams and submitted the article to the social bookmarking website Digg.com. The article became very well-liked with over 2000 votes, and it made the front page of the website. Some of the results I recognized for the article making the front page of Digg:

• 18,000 hits to my site in one day (I most often averaged 85 per day).

• $80.00 in adsense commissions that same day.

• #11 in Google for a keyword with over 1.2 million competing websites within 2 weeks.

The next thing that you need to become familiar with is Tag and Ping. Tagging is a fairly new approach to categorize information on the Internet. A tag is a well-chosen but short description of what the material within that tag is about. For example if a member goes to one of the social bookmarking internet sites and searches for the tag "dog training", then all of the material on that site relating to dog training will appear.

Now the ping part of tag and ping comes in after you prepare your new content and tag it with a relevant tag, you need to let the social bookmarking web pages that it is ready to be logged. This is achieved different ways. There is bookmarking social tools on the market that will automate this process. Some social bookmarking web pages will visit your website randomly and index anything new automatically, others will have to be submitted manually.

So you can see the strong point of social bookmarking sites, also nicknamed Web 2.0 for it's emphasis on the collaborativeness and sharing of the people of the web pages. If you have a web page or Blog that you would like to drive people to, don't underrate the caliber of social bookmarking.
