How Web Conferencing Has Improved the Way I Do Business

I suppose I am getting old fashioned, but it took me quite a while to adopt the technology of web conferencing. I thought that I did not have much of a use for it at first, since I was already equipped with a cellphone, a personal digital assistant, and a laptop with a wireless Internet card. It seemed to me that I had more than enough ways of communicating digitally with others and that web conferencing did not have anything new to offer me. Recently, however, I changed my mind about web conferencing, and I now consider it one of the most helpful and vital tools for everyday business communication.

I changed my mind when I discovered how much easier it was to handle client consultations with the aid of web conferencing. Ideally, of course, I should be able to meet with a client in person when I do a sales presentation or have a meeting about business. But that is not always possible, and in today's globe-shrinking Internet age, I routinely get requests to meet with clients who are too far away for me to see personally.

That is where web conferencing becomes essential. It allows me to sit down with clients and communicate just about everything that I could in a regular face-to-face meeting. I can show them a presentation, take them through a demonstration of a company product or service, browse with them through a company or client website, open applications on my computer for them to use, send them files including images and programs, answer their questions using instant messaging or Internet voice call software, and even jot down ideas on the fly using the handy virtual whiteboard.

That is just a quick overview of what I am able to do with the technology of web conferencing. And I can even use it while on the go, using my laptop with built-in WiFi. I just need to find a place where there is a good WiFi connection, and such hotspots are everywhere these days. Lately I have often found myself sitting at a café with my laptop and conferencing with clients in Los Angeles, Toronto, and Hong Kong. I have to say that web conferencing has definitely improved the way I do business.
