In our modern day and age, more and more credit card issuers are fighting for the right to loan money to potential consumers. Modern credit card companies want to attract more costumers so they have resorted to offering different kinds of rewards and perks to potential consumers.

Now, you may be able to benefit from these offers depending on your particular situation. However, some of these offers may just be complete wastes of your time. Allow me to give a brief overview of some of the more common types of rewards credit cards that are available today.

In my opinion, cash back credit cards are probably the most common type of rewards credit cards on today's credit card market. These cards are very popular because cash is the easiest of all rewards to spend. Nothing can compete with cash in terms of pure usability and flexibility.

Of course, air miles, hotel and rental car discounts, and other benefits are also rewards. If you not feel that any of the specialty rewards credit cards do not meet your specific needs, then you should consider applying for cash back credit cards.

A lot of people are now taking advantage of gas credit cards that offer special incentives to cardholders who purchase gas from the issuing company. These rewards often take the form of a cash payment that is based on a specific percentage of the purchases you made on gasoline. You will find gas rewards credit cards useful nowadays because of the ever increasing gas prices.

You may also consider rewards credit cards that are affiliated with air lines. These airline rewards credit cards will automatically convert part of the amount that you spend on purchases into airline miles. If you travel frequently on the same airline, then you can benefit well from these rewards credit cards because most airline credit cards are affiliated with a particular airline.

Nevertheless, it is still important to thoroughly understand the policies and procedures of a credit card before you sign up for it. Keep in mind that there are stipulations regarding when and how free airline miles can be redeemed.
