Modern Fabrics For Modern Backpacks

A rucksack is an important item to me as it is to many people who want to carry their folders around and keep them safe and dry. However, you can see that there are many expensive rucksacks that use materials such as Gore-Tex which are supposed to be much better than all of the rest. Are they really?

Normally, these materials will never influence my decision because a rucksack is simply a rucksack and I am not prepared to pay such a high price for one. Where having a rucksack in certain fabrics really matters, though, is when the bag is no longer just a trendy item into which to throw your shopping, but a functional piece of equipment for work or sport.

Modern fabrics like Gore-Tex offer fantastic functionality, as it's lightweight, incredibly strong, and waterproof in even the worst conditions. With better quality fabrics comes improved design and ergonomics, and, usually, the bag has a range of handy extra features such as a water bottle holder, and additional pockets, so organisation's a snap.

Even though using a rucksack is important to me, at the end of the day, a rucksack is just a rucksack and paying over thirty pounds for one is simply just too much and not worth the price. Furthermore, why should a material influence my choice on which rucksack I should buy. These materials are only sold by using fancy and scientific words which mean nothing much at all and the materials are no better than the cheaper, conventional materials.

Of course, you get what you pay for, but in terms of durability, quality bags work out as much better value in the long run. And if you fancy testing the theory out for yourself, just try taking a flimsy canvas rucksack the next time you climb a mountain on a rainy day, and you'll soon feel the difference!
