So if you have ever wondered which state has the highest homeowner's insurance rates then you will definitely find the recent feature interesting.

Before you click to see the answer it should be no surprise that it is Mother Nature herself that affects insurance rates throughout the country. States which are more prone to earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes are subject to higher rates.

So who actually topped the list. Florida? California? Those would be pretty good guesses considering we always hear about Florida on the news for some sort of natural disaster. And California is no stranger to earthquakes. But neither of these states were actually the most expensive.(although they both do appear in the top 10) Actually the answer is Texas. If you live in the Midwest you can expect higher rates than anywhere else in the country. Texas as well as much of the Midwest is prone to pretty much any kind of natural disaster from hurricanes to tornadoes. According to the article, "Texas, the most expensive state, it was $1,362, or 2.5% of the average Texans' household income". To put it in perspective the average cost to insure a home in the US in 2004 was $729! So who else was on the list? Well second was Louisiana followed by Oklahoma, Florida, Mississippi, District of Columbia, California, Kansas, Colorado, and Alaska.

So New York finally isn't on a most expensive list. I guess we should be lucky we only had one snowstorm this year!!
