Family Bonding Through Family Games

Repeatedly it has been found that one of the most effective ways for families to bond together is through playing family games. Playing games as a family allows the family to feel fun and joy together and clear out any negative feelings. During game play new things can be learned about the family members that were otherwise unnoticed. Family games help the family recognize some of the strengths and abilities of one another. Many times family games help create memories of certain funny or otherwise significant moments that will be remembered with fondness for a long time. It is not infrequent that even family inside jokes are developed during game play that will unite the family even at later times. Hugs, high-fives, laughs, and compliments are also commonplace in family games. Games can be played over and over for more fun memories. They are also a cheaper alternative to going to the movies or dining out. Although the children or parents may not remember every game that was played as a family, the idea that the family always had fun together is what will stick with the children as they remember their childhood.

Playing Games Leads to Learning

Learning can be as fun as playing a game. Within trivia games like Trivial Pursuit, the Game of Knowledge, Outburst, to name but a very few, people learn facts and statistics that they otherwise were not aware of. Another benefit from games like these is that gamers hear about new items and novelties that they had not known before but would be interested in finding out more. Children learn a lot of new words from games, whether inside the rules or at other points during the game. Grown-ups also learn unfamiliar words, like in Scattergories, Taboo and Scrabble. Other games show on a basic level how more complicated things work. Mortgage is taught basically in Monopoly, the stock market is exemplified in Pit, and even auctions take place in the game Masterpiece. Truly games help us learn but in a fun way.

How to Get More Out of Christian Games

Bible games are an excellent way to involve the family in gospel discussion and in helping share Christian values. However, sometimes these games are played just like other secular games and their purpose is forgotten. The following are some ideas on how to get more religion out of these wonderful Bible-based games. One way is after each round to find a scripture in the Bible that is related to that certain topic or idea given. Even this can become a game by seeing who will be the first to find such a scripture. Religious song can be involved by singing praises or hymns that correlate with the game. After a round, children can take turns recounting the stories or values from the Bible that were presented in the game. Games can start and finish with a prayer of thanks to the Lord and ask for blessing for everyone present.

Ways to make Christian Gaming More Reverent

Christian games, like those based on the Bible, are great ways to bring up gospel conversation. Sometimes, however, the focus ends up being more on winning rather than the principles trying to be taught. There are several ways to get more out of these religious games so that gospel learning is assured. For example, after each round, a Bible verse can be found that has to do with the idea that was presented. This can be made fun by turning it into a race of who can find a related scripture first. Another way is to sing a related hymn or praise after each round. After a round, children can take turns recounting the stories or values from the Bible that were presented in the game. It is a good idea to start and end the game with a prayer as well to give thanks to God for each member of the family or the friends that are present.
