What is Love?
What is love? The dictionary tells us: love (luv), n. 1.strong affection or liking for someone or something. While this could be true this is still not a complete definition that can give us an understanding of what love truly is. I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. Actually I think it is a good thing that we are not able to fully understand something like love from just reading a book or looking it up on the internet. In my opinion the only true way you can learn about something as great as love is by experiencing it by taking risks of giving your love and knowing that if it is true love, knowing that the more love you give you double the amount you will receive. I am a strong believer in the idea that before you can ever love another you must first love yourself. By loving yourself I do not mean you have to be conceited and selfish to love another person, I mean the exact opposite. In order to love yourself you have to be confident and know yourself. You have to know your good points as well as your bad points because they make you who you are. In order to show your confidence, you have to always be honest with yourself and show people the real you. If a person truly falls in love with you, they fall in love with your good side and your bad side and even all of the dimensions in between that you might not even know about, which brings me to my next thought.
Just as your love and confidence in yourself gives you what you need to see great things in others and love them, the act of loving others great points and excusing their faults, lets you get to know yourself more. If you have the right balance in your life and give your love away to the close people in your life, I believe this is a very high form of success in life because it creates a world of kindness and happiness for you and others around you.
So, with all of this said, I have laid out my thoughts about how to love others and yourself, and how if you have the right balance you and your loved ones will be truly happy. However, I still have not answered our original question: What is love? The reason why I have not answered it is because it is a question everyone must ask themselves. Love can be as simple as a twinkle on an eye, or as complex as a 50 year anniversary. Love comes in all forms and I think the reason it is this way is because it is a feeling. It is a strong emotion that can not be explained with words because they do not come even close to doing it justice. It can only be felt. "Love is like the wind, you can't see it but you can sure feel it". That is one of my favorite quotes from the move "A Walk to Remember".
