Article Marketing - Various Methods of Submitting Articles
I think that you should generally choose one and become very good at it, then perhaps add on a second method of article marketing or submission.
Method 1: If you are writing articles to generate direct traffic, meaning people who read the articles, you need only submit to a few article directories, the ones that get the most traffic and search engine hits. My testing has found that the first five on the article directory list at the end of this topic produce significantly more traffic than many of the other directories on the list. So if you are submitting articles for the purpose of generating direct traffic, you need only submit to the first few directories on that list. In fact, there is evidence that you can submit to the top one or two directories and get the highest level of impact from your article marketing efforts.
Method 2: If you are trying to generate a huge number of back links for search engine purposes, you are better off submitting to every directory on that list. Although many of those directories get very little traffic, they will provide you with a back link to your site. A note here: some would suggest that linking to sites with below a certain PageRank is actually detrimental to your linking strategy. I have not tried to micromanage my linking to that degree and have still had several sites achieve very high rankings, including 3 with top 1, 2, and 3 spots in one or both of the major search engines (for different terms). Could I have done better by only submitting to high ranked sites? Perhaps - but the key here is that I am looking at the massive nature or creating backlinks.
