With the constant barrage of media messaging shouting out the benefits of this new product or that amazing remedy, it's easy to feel desensitized towards all these "helpful" tips pushing and pulling you simultaneously. Who do you trust? Celebrities, why? What do celebrities know about regular folk life? Do they recycle, take out the garbage, load the dishwasher, cut the lawn or buy lottery tickets ... why would they? Cynicism runs amok.
Let's try this - what not to buy, written by a non-celebrity with nothing to gain. Clever!

Do Not Buy a Persian Rug because they are environmentally friendly.
Who wants to be a part of that whole fad anyways? Save the earth, cleaner air blah blah blah. Totally organic and 100% natural in fiber and process, Persian Rugs define that level of conscientious, environmentally responsible consumerism 'they' want us to fall into. So if you're fine with pollution, smog and lakes we can't swim in...

Do Not Buy a Persian Rug because they are durable.
Hand knotted, with each pile (rug fiber) individually tied these rugs strengthen with use. The more they are walked on the tighter the knots get hence the heirloom reputation they carry. Let the kids and grandkids get their own rugs after all what level of importance does an Heirloom handed down from generation to generation carry anyway...

Do Not Buy a Persian Rug because they increase in value.
In keeping with the durability factor Persian Rugs are long lasting. Take that, add the craftsmanship and time it takes to hand knot it as well as the fact that it is a unique one-of-a-kind treasure and presto you have the makings of a Christie's or Sotheby's Auction item. Put in perspective you probably wouldn't make any money on it because you would love your rug so much you would never dream of getting rid of it for any amount of money...yes, it's all clear now, better to buy a disposable rug whose touch quality deteriorates into that of sand paper and replace it yearly actually enabling you to spend more and accumulate...future land-fill.

Do Not Buy a Persian Rug because it is a one of a kind.
Persian Rugs are unique, no two are alike. These hand knot treasures are the equivalent of an artistic fingerprint; similar in design with completely different features one to the next. It's all about what is most important to you:
Are you trying to keep up with the Jones' with a mass produced area rug available nationwide in every department store in North America
OR
Would you rather skyrocket completely out of reach of their reach by showcasing your unique and individual style through one of these beautiful hand knot rugs, and in doing so completely annihilate any future competition - from anyone - ever.

There you have it, a genuine no nonsense account of what not to buy accompanied by the reasons not to buy written by someone you probably don't know maybe even about something you don't care about. In any event be informed, know what's out there and be happy.
