Turn.com - Worlds first automated targeted advertising platform

Turn.com is a new advertising platform that boasts high ROI by a number of fancy methods, they only display your ad based on a set of rules, some of which are based on your conversion of traffic into sales and how much your willing to paying for the conversion (sale), other rules are on content of your website and advert and how well all your content matches the content on the publishers website. What sets Turn.com apart though - besides their fancy advert matching system - is that you're not only paying per click, your now paying per sale as well.

Before I dive into the costs, their automated publishing is pretty cool, all you need to do is upload you advert and the tell Turn.com where the landing page is and it'll work out where and how to advertise your site - I'd be lying if I said I wasn't skeptical on how well the targeting is but none the less, anything is achievable.

Here's how the conversion works - you setup your campaign with an action, the "action" is what your basing the campaign on, so if your selling hosting, the action would be when the user pays for the hosting account, or if your selling t-shirts - the action would be when you sell the shirt, or if your just doing a branding campaign, the action could be if the user has visited 3 links on the website, or signed up for the newsletter.

Now lets say we're were willing to pay $5 per conversion ("action") - so for every person that converts I'll pay $5 to the publisher, not only that you need to pay per click, so on top of each conversion you pay say $0.50 per click, it's all adding up pretty fast, in my head. If you're paying per click and per sale you need to be spending very little per click to make any profit out the other end of each sale.

If you don't offer decent conversion or per click rates just like other publishing platforms your advert will be way down the list of adverts that get shown regardless of how well they match the content.

So basically if you don't already have one, you're now offering an affiliate program for your products / services where the publishers get paid on each sale AND offering each publisher of your affiliate program money for each click.

As a publisher you have the potential to make some decent money from their platform, as an advertiser I think it's going to get expensive unless you have some decent markups you can afford to bleed into.

Regardless like most pay per click platforms you should give it a try and see how well it converts for you, just don't forget to measure and report appropriately.
