Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers is one of the most successful teams in the entire history of the National Basketball Association NBA league. They have been one of the greatest teams in terms of skill set, scoring, and diverse players to have ever played basketball. The team also has one of the greatest fans in the history of the sport and has become icons in their own rights. The team plays at the grand Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. Before moving to the Staples Center, the Lakers played their home games at The Forum in Inglewood, California, the team played there for 32 years

The team like many of the other teams originated from another city and eventually found its home in another state. The team was cofounded in Detroit and then moved to Minneapolis. The "Lakers" in the team name stems from the team playing for Minneapolis that is also known as the Land of 10,000 lakes.

One of the great reasons behind the success and international acclaim to fame for this team has been their coaches and their super stars. Some of the most talented and skilled players have worn the LA Lakers shirt. The greatest legends like Magic Johnson, Kareen Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Jordon in the later years of the team's history. Team talent has allowed the basketball champions to also break some of the main records in NBA. The team has to their name the most wins (2,905), the highest winning percentage (61.5%), the most finals appearances (29) of any NBA franchise, and the second most championships. Yet the greatest and most commendable success is that they are the only team to have won the longest consecutive win streaks in US professional sporting history.

Beginnings
The Lakers was relocated to Minneapolis for the 1947 season and as a result team  easily won their division by 13 games. In the 1949 BAA Championship the Lakers beating the Washington Capitols.
In the 1952 season, the Lakers won 40 games, finishing second in its division. With a 48-22 record in the 1952-53 season, the team went to the NBA finals again after defeating the Fort Wayne Pistons in the Western Finals.
Move to Los Angeles
The Lakers became the NBA's first West Coast team, during 1960 off season, when their owner Bob Short, has decided to move the team to Los Angeles. The attendance fell dramatically in their first five years in Los Angeles, and thus result in lost to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. The team repeated its pattern, losing to the Celtics in the 1968 NBA Finals during that season.

Showtime
The Lakers made a bold move by acquiring Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, under his leadership at season's end Abdul-Jabbar won the fourth NBA Most Valuable Player Award, but finished out of the playoffs with a 40-42 record. The 1977-78 season didn't start out so well and the Lakers ended up winning 45 games.
The Lakers' "Showtime" era from 1979 to 1989 was in full swing during this season. The team won the Pacific Division for the fourth straight year. The team gained an extra measure of satisfaction by remarkable performance in wining title in the Boston Garden.
