The Teachers Pet

I've wasted so much time trying to get technology to work in my classroom. The worst of it is that the pupils suffer valuable learning time. In the past few years I've tried to keep up with music technology, music software and all the latest gear that attaches to my computer - it's a real headache.

The main reason I'm writing this article is to bring to the attention of music teachers a neat piece of kit which is essential to folk who are having problems with computer connections with MIDI, recording audio or latency issues - which is the worst kind of technical problem I've come across.

There is a new keyboard which is called the M-Audio Keystudio 49i which has a built-in audio interface. So immediately, you can plug a mic into it and record your voice after connecting it to your computer!

It connects via USB, has its own built-in piano sound - sounds great by the way, and also has no problem with latency. I've been using it with Cubase LE 4 and immediately after installing all the drivers from the CD-ROM, switching it on and booting up any software recording program the connections are all there for you to use.

So, instead of the techies fidgeting about and uninstalling my computer from our school network I can really just plug in a USB cable and I'm ready to go. The kids are delighted and I can't believe how easy it is to use. I'll be looking for more M-Audio keyboards in the future if it's that simple.

If a novice like me can use it....

Anyway, I've posted a link to the company who I bought it from -

By the way, the guy I spoke to on the phone knows his stuff so can help you out quite a bit.
