If you have New York Knicks tickets, you know that you are about to see the big daddies of basketball do their thing on the courts. The Knicks have been around the world of basketball for a very long time and they have definitely seen it all- championship wins, bottom-of-the-barrel periods, big stars and memorable plays.

The New York Knicks are based in New York City and play their home games at Madison Square Garden. The team play as part of the National Basketball Association and is also affiliated to the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference. The Knicks have two championship wins to its name, eight conference titles and eight divisions' wins as well.

Nicks and Hits

The Knicks were formed in 1946, named after Father Knickerbocker, which is seen as a symbol of New York. For the first fifteen years or so, the Knicks were strong players and contenders for the playoff finals. The demand for New York Knicks tickets rose as more and more fans came out to see them play. However, the sixties were a hard time for the team. Till 1966, the team faced some of the hardest years of its life, winding up last in the division every year and pulling in some of their biggest losses ever. It was during this period that Wilt Chamberlain would score an NBA record of 100 points in a game against the Knicks.

There was hope on the horizon however. Soon sales of New York Knicks tickets began to rise, as new talent began to sparkle in the new Knicks drafts. The team began to improve drastically and by the 1969-1970 seasons, they had posted 18 straight wins. The early seventies belonged to the Knicks, as they pulled in big and memorable championship wins at the time. However, another downward spiral was just around the corner.

Ewing and Isaiah

Following their championship dream run, the Knicks hit another rough spot, which they didn't really recover from until Patrick Ewing joined the team during the 1984 season. The team began to play consistently yet again and managed to post some big wins. However, in 2000 Ewing was traded off and it was the end of another era- though Ewing hadn't helped in bringing in any championship wins, he had boosted sales of New York Knicks tickets and the cadre of the Knicks game.

In 2003, Isaiah Thomas joined the Knicks, not as a player, but as the team president. He immediately made a number of trades, in an effort to shakedown the team, but the Knicks soon earned the distinction of having the biggest payroll, while being the worst team in the league. In recent times, a number of anti-Knicks websites have appeared in reaction to the bad trades and bad performance of the team. Things have picked up in recent times however, with a number of draft picks performing better than expected. Expectations are high to see what the Knicks will do in the coming season- will they shine or sputter?
