It has been said that almost 1 in 60 people in our society suffer from anxiety at one point or another. It's not always identified properly, however, so it is important to know what causes anxiety and how it can be identified.

There are many things in today's world that can cause anxiety. Because of the fast paced world we live in and the instability of many things like work and financial matters, anxiety is more prevalent than it has ever been in the past.

One of the most common causes of anxiety is financial problems. We live in a debt culture, where credit cards are readily available to help people buy things they really can't afford. This debt can become quite serious and can lead to serious stress and anxiety problems.

Relationships, both personal and work-related, are another common cause of anxiety. The divorce rate is at an all-time high and it is a common reason for anxiety to strike, both because of the breakdown of the marriage and because of the aftermath - court fights, child custody, etc.

Work is another one of the most common anxiety triggers. Because today's workplace is so volatile, there is often little or no job security. And the workload is constantly growing as companies try to do more with the same or even less employees.

Some of the most common symptoms of anxiety include the following:

Loss of sexual drive Finding it difficult to concentrate Lack of appetite General restlessness Feeling as if people are watching or judging you Withdrawal from social settings Stress and muscle tensions

These are some of the general symptoms, but there are other more severe problems that can gradually occur if anxiety is left untreated.

The earlier an anxiety problem can be identified and treated, the better because over time they can lead to other physical and emotional illnesses which are much more difficult to manage.

If you are worried you might be suffering from anxiety problems, the best course of action is to visit your doctor to get a thorough diagnosis. They can help you determine what is causing the problem and what the most effective way of treating it is.
