The majority of the children adopted were girls, ranging in age from infant to six years old. Typically, the youngest child up for adoption is eight to eleven months old. However, there are children with special needs, as well as older children. The children in China who are waiting to be adopted live in orphanages.

It takes approximately 15-18 months to receive a referral for a China adoption. The referral follows a home study that must be done along with your dossier submission to China. When you receive your referral, you will also receive a picture and a short medical history of the one you will be adopting.

The agency will assume that you want the infant or child they assign to you. However, if you decide that you want to adopt a different child, it could take several additional months for a new referral. The exception to this is if there is a mistake in the sex, age or health of the kid who is referred to you, compared to your actual request. If looking to adopt an older child, the wait time is generally less. If you are adopting for your second time, you must wait a full year after the first adoption is completed before you can submit a new dossier.

China requires that several requirements be met in order for the international adoption to be completed. If couples are married and are in their first marriage, they must be married at least 2 years before they can go through the adoption process. However, if one of the parents has previously been married, the couple must be married a minimum of 5 years.

There are certain age requirements for a China adoption. Parents who fall between 30-45 may adoption children who are 18 months and younger. If the parents are between 45-50 they are allowed to adopt children 18 months to 36 moths. Couples who wish to adopt and are between the ages of 50-55 may adopt children who are 30 months and older. If the couple's combined age is over a 100, China does not allow them adopt. When looking into a China adoption, you must consider the travel involved. Couples will be required to travel to China for approximately a two week period. This gives the parents time to see China, as well as complete all necessary paperwork in order to bring their new family member home.

International adoptions are on the rise, especially China adoptions. Whether you are looking to adopt an infant or an older child, you will find what you are looking for in China. So before you start to think that all hope is lost in adopting the child of your dreams, be sure to consider China.
