Cellulite refers to the dimpled appearance of the skin that forms over thighs and buttocks and tends to be more pronounced in older women.

Most women carry excess fats in thighs and buttocks, but cellulite is not confined to the overweight. In actuality, it is the lumpy substance that looks more like cottage cheese that forms beneath the skin. As the collection of fats push against the connective tissue, it tends to cause the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and visually look lumpy - giving you what is referred to as "cellulite".

Cellulite is comes naturally with aging and similar to wrinkles that form in the face, it is actually the result of lower levels of collagen and elastin in the skin. It is classified as a hormonal imbalance felt women and seldom appears on males. Normally, fats stored in the thighs and buttock is the same with fats stored all over the body and no difference is observed.

The presence of cellulite is not always prominent, unless one tries to pinch the upper skin of one's thigh; should it feel lumpy then you most certainly have it. Don't feel bad about having cellulite, since most women have the same condition. There are several factors that contribute to cellulite build-up: genetics probably, gender, the amount of excess fats in your body, age is a major factor and the thickness of your skin are all instrumental to the presence of cellulite over your thighs and how visible it is, even at a distance.

What causes cellulite build-up?

There are still no conclusive findings that can pinpoint the cause of cellulite build-up. But one thing for sure is that technology has not yet devised a "one time cure all" miracle potion, treatment or medicine that can easily eradicate cellulites completely. Some specialty clinics that specialize on cellulite removal simply apply deep massaging to puff up the skin and temporarily reduce the cellulite's appearance. Other treatments involve liposuction (to remove fats) and mesotheraphy (injection of drugs into cellulite) which happens to be way too expensive and out of reach of the majority of clients.

These known remedies offer only temporary relief and are likewise not advisable. Liposuction for example should only be used to remove deep fats, which is not effective in the removal of cellulite.

The most effective solution for removing cellulite comes from combining several of the more effective methods together.
