Kid's Furniture That your Child Will be Proud of

Furniture that is made for a child's room doesn't have to be of the knock-down variety that will crack and break the first time your kids decide to host a wrestling match on it. While it is true that kids can be especially hard on furniture, there are some great options out there that are as tough as your kids. If you just want to buy one set of quality furniture and then pass it on to the generations that follow, consider buying quality pieces when you furnish your child's room.

Beds

When your child is ready to move out of the crib and into a toddler bed, you'll want to look for a few key features. First, a toddler bed needs to be low to the ground. This serves several purposes. It reduces the distance to the floor when your child inevitably falls out of bed. A low bed also means that children can get in and out of bed on their own. This may be frustrating at first, especially when kids get up at night when they should be sleeping, but it is important that they come to understand the freedom that is available to them now that they are no longer in the crib.

Toy Chests

A high quality wooden toy chest is a great investment. You know that your kids are going to climb on, jump off, and jump over the toy box. Why buy a cheap plastic one that will fall apart in just a few months? Go ahead and invest a toy chest that will last. When the first child is done with it, you will be able to repaint it and pass it on to the next. Make sure that the toy chest has well-crafted joints and heavy-duty hinges for the lid. As long as these parts are solid, then there is no reason why you should ever have to buy another toy chest.

Desks/Vanities

Whether you are looking for a place for your child to sit and do homework or a place for a little girl to sit and play dress up, there are some beautifully crafted pieces of children's furniture available. You can find everything from classic shaker-style constructed desks to very ornate, Victorian-looking vanities sized just for kids. While you may have to take some time to educate your kids about the proper uses for desks and vanities and how to take care of the furniture, these pieces can do quite a bit to enhance the look and ambiance of a child's room. These pieces, like toy chests, can become heirlooms that are passed on from one generation to the next. When well constructed, there is no reason why children's furniture shouldn't last longer than you do. If you question the value of this type of investment, spend some time at an estate auction and see just how much pieces like this sell for once they have been around for a few generations.
