If you have ever been to an air show you will know how entertaining they are. If you have an interest in aircraft of any type then you will certainly have a good time trying to identify all the different planes; but for the rest of us the biggest attraction has to be the aerial acrobatics that are often the highlight of any air show.
Aeriel acrobatics displays are a great event to watch because no matter how many people turn up, you are always guaranteed to get a good view. A lot of air shows also take place in coastal regions, which makes it an ideal opportunity to watch the air show and enjoy a wonderful day out with the whole family as well.
So why are people attracted to aerial acrobatics so much? For most people it is the thrill of seeing planes being controlled in a manner very different to how you would normally see them being flown. There are only a few planes that are built to withstand this kind of exercise and there is nothing better than seeing an expert (or experts, as there is normally more than one plane involved and flying in formation) handle a plane in such a way as to make it roll and pitch, nose diving towards the ground before pulling up and flying away again.
The most famous formation flying team is undoubtedly the Red Arrows, which is part of the Royal Air Force. The distinctive red planes are a sight to behold when they are airborne and going through a series of tightly controlled manoeuvres that make them seem as if they are just yards away from each other.
The team have a variety of different displays and formations that they fly in, which are often accompanied by the distinctive red, white and blue smoke trails that tend to bring the cameras out in force, as everyone gets a few photos of the famous formation flying team to keep for posterity.
The Red Arrows first came into being in the mid sixties, and since then they have performed hundreds of shows in many locations all around the world. Spectacular aerial manoeuvres, going by such names as the Corkscrew and the Champagne manoeuvre are guaranteed to make everyone go home happy, after seeing arguably the best flying team in the world.
There are plenty of British air shows that the Red Arrows have either been a part of, or are going to be a part of in the future, including the Bournemouth Air Festival, which like many air shows sticks to the coastline to provide a truly sensational day out.
So even if you don't have a stomach for aerial acrobatics yourself, you'll certainly enjoy them from the best vantage point of all - the ground.
