One of the new methods used by physicians to help patients with severe and habitual snoring problems is injection to stop snoring also known as injection snoreplasty. It is type of sclerotherapy which involves the use of hardening agent injected into the upper palate.

It is important to understand that injection to stop snoring is for mild to moderate snoring, and it does not completely eliminate the snoring but instead reduces the intensity of the sound. Patients who want to undergo this type of procedure are discussed of the pros and cons of such and other treatment options available.

This is done as an outpatient or same day surgery and under the aid of local anesthetic. A hardening agent is injected by making a bubble in the upper palate. Within days, scarring then ensues which leads to hardening of the palate. The uvula and other throat structures are then pulled forward reducing the snoring.

Among the side effects of the treatment include discomfort in the throat as it swells because of manipulation. Patients are advised to take lozenges or soothing remedies to reduce the swelling.
