Baby Names And What They Mean

When choosing a baby name, it is best to make sure the name goes with the surname. And to get really technical, it is important that first, middle, and last names fit together well. Even if your child is not going to be using their middle name on a regular basis, there will be a time in which it will need to be revealed, so you have to make sure everything fits. If it does not, you will find that there may be some issues in the future.

So what are those issues?

Well, there is a reason why picking a baby name is such a hard process. You do not want to pick a name that other kids may make fun of someday. You also want a name that is strong and has a good meaning. But again, it must fit with the surname.

Flexible surname

A flexible surname is a last name that any first or middle name will go with. These surnames are also the most common that you will find. They are simple and to the point.

These surnames include:

Smith
Johnson
Williams
Jones
Brown
Davis
Miller
Wilson
Thomas

And the list goes on and on. There is quite a bit that you can do with these last names. However, it is sometimes good to refrain from names such as "Dave Davis","William Wilson", "Thomas Thomas". Yes, some of these names do happen. However, some people do not bat an eye at it, others do. If it is tradition, then naming a child "William Williams" may not be so bad if the child will go by the nickname "Bill" or "Will".

There is definitely a lot to think about here when it comes to names, but if you have one of these surnames or one of the other most common last names such as "Jackson", you are more likely to choose a first and middle name that will fit.

Making names fit

Okay, so you know that the entire name should fit together like an elegant sentence. The name should flow together well. When you say your baby's entire name together, you should not have to think, "Hmmm, does this fit?" Sometimes, parents try to make them fit when they do not. It may be because they want a particular name so bad, but sometimes it is necessary to compromise. For instance, "William Williams" may be how your child is referred to without a nickname like "Bill" or "Will".

Even if they have the name "William David Williams", or something to that effect, no one is going to be referring to them by their middle name all of the time. These are factors to take into consideration. Even if your child prefers to go by their middle name later, there is a time that real first name is going to come into play.

So use your best judgment. Make sure the child's entire name flows. You should know when you have got it right. You will be able to feel it when you have found a combination that works.
