Crazy Capping, The Best Losing Bets I Ever Made While Handicapping Horse Races

Almost everybody remembers the big winning bets they placed and cashed in their lives. But how many people remember the worst bet or the craziest bet? I used to hit the horse track on a regular basis and then once in a while, for a change of pace, would go to the dog races with my sister. Back in those days I didn't know a greyhound from a beagle and I paid for it at the windows.
But a day at the dog races, after a week at the horse races was still a change of pace, sort of a busman's holiday, if you know what I mean. I may not have been much of a greyhound handicapper, in contrast to my sister who really was good at handicapping the dogs, but I could spot an opportunity when I saw one on the tote board.
One thing that stood out was when the odds in a lower grade race would favor one dog a lot more than the others. In those races, after never making a trip to the pay window all day, I would bet every single dog in the race. I would call it breaking the jinx or priming the pump. My sister called it crazy, but I did cash some nice hefty tickets doing that.
Do I recommend betting on every runner in a race as a way to make money? Of course not. But I do remember those bets and the fun I had watching her face when a longshot managed to streak across the finish line ahead of the over bet favorite. She got to calling it Crazy Capping and calling me the Crazy Capper. I guess the monika fit, at the dog track. But at the horse track, I am all business, and have even been in the business as an owner and employee on the backside.
I remember my bets at the horse track, too, especially the losing bets. I don't beat myself up when I make a bad bet or lose, but I do pay attention. As gamblers we have a tendency to want to forget the losses and focus on the wins. That can be deadly to a bankroll and very frustrating. Here is what I recommend. Start writing down all the losing bets you make and why you made them.
Keep a sheet of paper for each day at the races whether you bet in front of your computer, at an otb or at the race track itself. Keep a sheet with each losing bet, but only the losers. After a few weeks you will notice some patterns in your betting and may even say to yourself, "I must be crazy to keep making that same bet over and over and losing." You may call yourself a crazy capper but you will also see your mistakes and be able to change them if you want to start winning. This is just one more system for perfecting your handicapping.
