Karting is fast becoming a popular sport for kids between the age of 8 and 16. With pressure on parents to find an activity for their children, could this be what you have been looking for? With numerous Government schemes attempting to encourage children to be more active, plus the challenges of concerned parents to find an activity for their kids to take part in, Karting has recently seen an increase in 8 to 16 year olds taking part in the event.

Martin Fisher, 14, from Camberley in Surrey had gradually slipped in to a general routine of coming home from school and then just sitting in front of a TV screen and playing on his games console. His Mother was becoming particularly concerned that her son was not being active enough, but initially couldn't see much alternative than him hanging round the streets in the area. Aware of reports in the local newspapers about finding activities for children to take part in and the dangers of obesity problems amongst young children in the UK, she knew she needed to act. "I started looking around the area for activities that he might be interested in, and that's when I discovered that we had a Go Karting circuit in the area," recalls Sandra Fisher, Martin's Mum. The Karting circuit in Camberley, Surrey, is one of the best equipped in the UK and their Kids Karting sessions are 30 minutes of terrific fun.

Martin was so impressed that he is now a regular at the circuit. His Mum is also happy, as it has given him an alternative to hanging round the streets or sitting in front of a television all evening. "I'm so glad that I made the call and booked the karting session for Martin. I know it's important to all parents that their children are keeping active, whilst also not hanging round the streets," said Sandra.

Children are given a full safety briefing on arrival at all karting circuits in the UK, ensuring that they get the most out of their experience. An extremely high percentage of kids who try the sport for the first time return back again, with large numbers taking up the sport as a regular hobby. The introduction to karting can give children a great insight into driving, and also a sound appreciation of controlling speed and negotiating bends and sharp turns.

"I go to the Camberely circuit three times a month now, and my lap times just seem to be getting better and better," says a confident Martin.

If you are a worried parent, who is keen to get their child motivated and off the street corners or out from in front of the television, then karting could be the answer to your problem. There are hundreds of well maintained circuits in the UK, with a large proportion of them offering good value sessions for children.
