The personal training industry is experiencing an enormous surge in demand. Personal training used to be for just rich celebrities. But as more people become aware of what personal training can offer them, the demand for personal trainers grows. In fact, the personal trainer job outlook has never been better.

The U.S. Department of Labor is forecasting a 50% growth rate for the industry through the next decade. Many trainers are getting hired immediately on becoming certified and I have even heard of some cases where candidates are "pre-hired" in anticipation of achieving their certification.

But as the industry grows, it is continually evolving. The traditional model of getting a personal training job at a gym is now offering more outlets.

1) Corporations are creating their own health programs for their employees as a means of reducing their health insurance premiums

2) personal trainers work outside of gyms in parks, beaches and nature trails.

3) trainers partner with health organizations like rehabilitation centers and trade referrals

4) personal training boot camps

5) lifestyle vacations complete with a personal trainer make exercise an important part of leisure time

The personal trainer job outlook improves as these outlets gain in popularity.

The Effect of an Ageing Population

If you haven't heard, we are all living longer these days. Retirement is no longer seen as a sedentary lifestyle choice. Active seniors are setting a great example for the next massive wave of retirees: The Baby Boomers!

According to The Kiplinger, health care jobs will be on the increase because of our aging population. The report states that there will be a growing need for alternative health care and that more and more people will seek exercise as a means to stay healthy or an attempt to improve health.

It is predicted that there will be an increase in demand for personal trainers and health club workers. Baby boomers are fitness conscious, aware of what personal trainers do, and have the money to pay for the services. What a lot of baby boomers don't have is TIME!

But that is all going to change in the next decade. As the boomers start to retire, they are going to be cashed up and looking for ways to stay active. Smart personal trainers will exploit this demographic by targeting the senior citizen niche.

Just be aware that the boomers are also a very well educated group and they will surely insist on their trainer holding a specialized certification to work with seniors.
