Modesto is one of the most exciting and must visit attractions of California. It is an interesting tourist destination and offers a great range of attractions for the tourists coming from all over the world. The city exhibits a great range of parks and rivers along with numerous historically significant sites. This is a great place where one can essence a vibrant multicultural traditions.

This beautiful and marvelous city is located in Northern California. The city is known for its lush greenery surrounding as it is situated right amidst the richest farmland in USA. The city enjoys the status of being the county seat of Stanislaus County. According to an estimation, the population of the city as of April 2009 was around 211,156.

In 1870, the city was founded to serve as a railroad stop connecting Sacramento to Los Angeles. It was named for William C. Ralston, who was referred as 'Muy modesto' means very modest person by a Spanish railroad worker during the naming ceremony. From here after, the town was named as Modesto but there is no solid evidence for the same.

In 1884, the city was incorporated with over a thousand people as its residents. It played a very crucial role during World War II as it supplied canned goods, powdered milk and several edible things to the troops.

The city of Modesto is completely packed with a range of attractions such as Bethany Reservoir State Recreation Area, Boomers Fun Park, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, Great Valley Museum of Natural History, Hersheys Chocolate Visitors Center and several other prominent and must visit attractions.

Bethany Reservoir State Recreation Area is one of the most popular and major attractions for the people visiting the city. This place is especially popular among the people who have interest in water-oriented activities along with fishing and windsurfing. One can also go for a bike trail in order to explore the area completely.

Boomers Park is very nice and exciting place to spend your vacations with your entire family. This is the place where your kids will find a range of things to amuse themselves. It is a chain of amusement parks that includes restaurants, musical events with amazing rides with carousels.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park is another must visit attraction of Modesto City. This is the one of the continuously operated public sites in California. This marvelous park is situated on the western Sierra Nevada. The park is stretched over six thousand acres of pine forest making it a great place to spend your entire day. The park offers a great opportunity for hiking and biking trails. There is also a special hiking trail for visually impaired people.
