Getting rid of blackheads is no easy task. Which is why so many people are frustrated when it comes to blackheads. But there are some things you can do.

Gentle water-based cleansers. Avoid using soap, some of the ingredients in soap can block your pores. Use a face wash that contains salicylic acid (2%) and moisturizers to hydrate the skin.

Absorb excess oil. Use clay mask that don't contain any harsh products like camphore or peppermint. Oil-absorbing papers are also an option.

Retinoid is a form of vitamin A that helps keep skin cells normal. It keeps the shape of the pores normal which helps oil flow and reduces blocking. The most common and clinically tested retinoids are tretinoid and adapalene.

Exfoliate. Exfoliating creams can remove blackheads but be very gentle when you scrub as not to irritate the skin which will cause inflammation blocking up pores leading to more blackheads. Someone with dry skin should use an exfoliating cream with moisturizers.

Removing the blackheads. Use a slightly warm compress over the face to open the pores for 10-15 minutes. Then path the skin dry. With a tissue over each finger, gently apply soft pressure to the sides of the blackhead. Pressing down and up around it. Do this a few times and if the blackhead doesn't pop out, stop pushing. Continuing will only harm the skin and create swelling and could cause scaring. Do not over squeeze, use only gentle pressure.

Pore strips . You should avoid these as they often make things worse. They are basically just a piece of tape that rips out the blackhead. Sure it is impressive to see all that sticks to it. But it causes damage to the skin and oil glands. Which can cause more blackheads. They are especially harmful and painful if you have thin skin or any skin disorder such as psoriasis or rosacea. They can tear and injure skin.

The best way to get rid of blackheads and prevent them from returning is to use a salicylic acid (2%) face wash twice daily to remove excess oil and unblock pores.
