All over the world today there is an extremely high demand for health care workers; especially nurses! Advanced technology is helping us to understand the human body and giving us the capacity to live longer now than ever before. Now that America's baby boom generation is beginning to retire, even more health-care professionals are needed. The future is sure to hold many career opportunities in nursing.

A nurse can move to practically any city in the world and easily find employment. Today's nurses are required to perform more tasks than ever before. Some of these tasks include, among others, diagnostic testing, drawing blood or other bodily fluids, providing emotional support, giving medical advice, educating patients and patients' families on specific illnesses and how to manage them.

Teaching patients and their families how to perform home care is yet another responsibility of nurses today. Some nurses even have the responsibility of performing grief counseling to families of patients who are critically ill. Nurses also provide vital services to communities such as local blood drives, health screenings, immunizations, health seminars, health screenings, along with other health related community needs.

Lots of nurses elect to specialize in one specific medical field. There are countless fields of study nurses have choose from. Mental health nursing, hospital nursing, clinical nursing, private duty nurses, emergency room nursing, operating room nurses, oncology nursing, in geriatrics nurses, pediatrics nursing, pulmonary medicine nursing, family nursing and elderly care nursing are a few examples of medical fields nurses have to choose from. Many nursing students will elect to study two or more specialized fields to increase their employment opportunities even more.

With the need for more and more qualified nurses to handle today's demanding workforce, nursing schools both online and traditional are struggling to meet the needs of the health-care industry. There seems to be the greatest demand for nurses in countries with aging populations. There are career opportunities for nurses in every country of the world today.

Finding employment is probably the easiest part of being a nurse today. Todays nurses are more likely to have trouble getting time off from work. Vacation time and personal time will be harder to come by for health care workers until such a time where more nurses graduate.
