Podcasting has the ability to be a successful means of promotion for your website. It has allowed people to target markets more carefully than ever before, giving the consumer the choice on whether or not to listen to your podcast. By targeting the correct market, and communicating an informative message, a podcast can have a very effective conversion rate of listeners into customers. Marketing via podcast has become popular for those who are looking to advertise and promote their products, or themselves.

Know your target market, and know your potential customers. No longer do you have to communicate your message to large undefined groups of people, but now you can target your message to a very specific niche.

A podcast is simply a digital audio file that is downloaded to a personal MP3 player, or on a PC. Prospective marketers should think of podcasting as targeted digital broadcasting, where people choose to listen to your message. Although it may seem counterintuitive to broadcast to a small audience, it should be remembered that that this small audience has chosen to listen to your message. They are already interested in what you have to say, and are more likely to buy your products or services.

Keep a few things in mind when communicating your marketing message to potential customers:

1. Podcast via RSS feed, many people make the mistake of including a link on their website to their podcast, but never have a syndication feed. This lone file on the Internet is simply that, just a lone file. Podcasting is about the feed. The feed is your broadcast! The syndication feed also allows you to submit your content to other websites and directories. The syndication feed has the power of enabling your podcast to have hundreds of links pointing back at it, from all across the Internet. When creating your RSS feed be sure to be descriptive and informative, as this is your only chance to sell your podcast to potential listeners.

2. Stay upbeat and interesting! Nothing is worse than losing your listeners halfway into your podcast, after getting them to download and listen to your podcast. Share your enthusiasm and interest in what you're talking about with them. Excitement is contagious.

3. The production quality of your podcast is just as important as the quality of your content. Unfortunately, the first podcasts from many aspiring podcasters sound as if they have been recorded in basement closet. Voices in podcasts should be clear, and if you choose background music it should not overpower your voice.

Keeping these few simple tips in mind, anyone should be able to create a quality podcast. Hopefully, for those who have chosen to market their products, or themselves, there will be many successful conversions from their podcasts.
