So what exactly is network marketing?

Network marketing, sometimes referred to as MLM (multi-level marketing), is a business model in which consultants of direct selling companies make money not only on products that they sell, but also on sales generated by people who they introduced to the company. For example, in a company with a 5-level compensation plan, a consultant (aka distributor/promoter) will earn commission on a sale that he makes and on sales made by anyone that he recruits...and anyone they recruit...and anyone they recruit...and anyone they recruit... and anyone they recruit.

"But wait, isn't that a pyramid scheme? Isn't that illegal?" The answer to both of those questions is NO. Many people may confuse MLM with illegal pyramid or Ponzi schemes, in which money is received just from recruiting others into the opportunity and no real product is given in exchange. In MLM, however, a product AND a business opportunity are exchanged for money. MLM companies operate in all 50 United States and in over 100 other countries. If it was illegal, I wouldn't be doing it!
