The Pros and Cons of Online Fundraising

Cons:

Fundraising online takes a lot of work to get started. This is not for your 10 year-old girl scout, but rather for your 18 year-old college student. If you want money within the next 2 to 3 weeks, then go door to door, because it takes about that long just to make your site.

One of the worst things about online fundraising is that it takes away the human element. You don't ever have to talk to the person who is giving you the money. Going door to door to actually talk to, and sympathize with people is one of the best things about fundraising.

Pros:

The world has changed so much in the past 5-10 years. Everything, from newspapers to fundraising has gone electronic. People these days now expect and want to get everything right when they ask for it. So if you are running a fundraiser, and it is not online, you are almost guaranteed to not get as many people as you could have.

Online Fundraisers reach out to millions and millions of people every single day. Instead of spending your whole day going door to door, and getting 20 sales, you could spend your day optimizing your site, and getting 100 sales. When you are fundraising online, your potential reach is almost infinite.

This is a great long term plan for your team, club. On line fundraising may not show a substantial amount of income in the first year, but after that, it grows at an exponential rate. If you would like to pave the way for future members, then this is the best way to do it.

This article is not meant to turn any person away from online fundraising, but rather encourage only serious people to do so. Fundraising online is a great way to get your name out there, and get some serious cash flow to your cause.
