Is The Dyson DC07 Vacuum Cleaner Any Good?

The DC07 is a very popular model from Dyson. The Dyson DC07 boasts power, functionality and ease of use. But, does the unit deliver on its promises?

The DC07 from Dyson is an upright vacuum cleaner. There's no denying its suction power. This is achieved by the use of centrifugal forces to produce suction. It's called the RootCyclone System by Dyson. Basically air is spun at high velocity to produce suction. This is different from conventional vacuum cleaners that rely on the dust bag and filter to produce suction. This technical innovation meant that Dyson could do away with bags. Instead the DC07 - and every other Dyson vacuum - employs dust containers; plastic compartments that can be removed, emptied and put back. The advantage of RootCyclone technology is that there is no loss of suction; even when the dust container is practically full.

Although the Dyson DC07 vacuum cleaner has fantastic suction power it isn't the lightest upright on the market; it weighs nearly 20lbs - a heavy upright when compared to the Oreck XL vacuum, which weighs only 8lbs. This can make it difficult for some to use. It's further compounded by the fact that it has no self-propelled feature. However, it can be reared up onto its back wheels to move it from room to room.

Cleaning stairs is easy with the Dyson DC07 vacuum. The DC07 comes with a retractable hose that is stored on the unit. The hose means that you can vacuum up to 17 feet away from the unit. Also, Dyson DC07 vacuums come with a stair tool, a brush tool, a crevice tool. The tools come with something called High Velocity Airflow, which directs the air down into the carpet pile. This does two things: more dirt is picked up because the directional force of the air agitates and dislodges dust and the airflow is continuous so curtains and other light materials don't get stuck in the tool.

Any good quality vacuum cleaner should come with a HEPA filter and the Dyson DC07 is no exception. Dyson supply a lifetime HEPA filter with the DC07: they recommend that it is cleaned every 6 months. Because of the HEPA filter the DC07 is good for allergy suffers. The British Allergy Foundation has endorsed the Dyson DC07 vacuum cleaner.

As mentioned, the Dyson DC07 is a little on the heavy side. There is another and more important design flaw. The vacuum has a very high clearance and can't get under beds, dressers, sofas or furniture. There is a floor tool available but it doesn't come as standard. Dyson make other vacuums that have a low clearance, but in order to clean under furniture with the Dyson DC07 vacuum means having to move the furniture.

The construction of the Dyson DC07 vacuum is excellent. The casing is made from ABS and polycarbonate, materials used to manufacture crash helmets, cars and pipelines.

In summary, the DC07 Dyson vacuum cleaner is a good quality vacuum. It has some faults - a little heavy and can't get underneath furniture - but these are more than compensated for with the incredible suction power of the DC07 vacuum cleaner.
