Our present shul building has been at 7505 Brookhaven Rd. in the Overbrook Park neighborhood of Philadelphia since 1960. This is just a few blocks from City Avenue, which forms the city line between Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township.

Construction is now nearing completion at our new property at 200 Haverford Rd. in Wynnewood, Lower Merion Township, just a few blocks on the other side of City Avenue (see the photo above), with estimated completion in March 2007. Our offices, which had already been relocated, are temporarily back in our old location on Brookhaven Rd. until construction is complete. For more information about our plans, click here. Directions

Our community is vibrant and alive with Jewish activity. In addition to regular daily and Shabbos minyanim, Congregation Beth Hamedrosh offers an extensive schedule of learning opportunities for both men and women at our Shul as well as through other community organizations, including the Philadelphia Community Kollel. Please consult with Rabbi Caplan for specifics and schedules or see the shiurim page. Eruv:

Our community is blessed with an eruv that encompasses both our present location in Philadelphia and our new location in Lower Merion. We've just completed an expansion of our eruv that triples its size, bringing it into many new areas in Lower Merion Township as well as a portion of Narberth borough. For more information, click here. Shopping:

Within our immediate community are R&R Produce & Fish, Bestcake Bakery, Shalom Pizza, and New York Bagels. All of these establishments are under the supervision of the Community Kashrus of Greater Philadelphia and they cater to the special needs of our community by offering quality products and personal service. Our own Rabbi Shlomo Caplan is a member of the Community Kashrus of Greater Philadelphia. Also, Rita's Water Ice and Baskin-Robbins are within the community and the great majority of items there are approved by Rabbi Caplan. Also within the community is the Kaiserman Branch of the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Philadelphia, two beautiful public parks, and branches of both the Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township public libraries.

Less than 10 minutes from our shul are supermarkets such as Genuardi's and Acme with supervised kosher food departments offering fresh meats, fish, and prepared foods, as well as a wide variety of kosher packaged products. Seforim and Judaica are available at Bala Judaica and Rosenberg's Judaica, both located in nearby Bala Cynwyd. For information regarding these and other resources, see our Kosher Shopping page or contact Rabbi Caplan. Education:

Just outside our community are such institutions as the world-renowned Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Community Kollel, the Mitzvah Factory, Aish HaTorah of Philadelphia, and the Torah Academy (the local Orthodox day school for girls and boys pre-nursery to 8th grade, as well as the Girls' High School). Each of these institutions is within minutes of our community. Please see our resource page for more information. Mikvaos:

The Women's Mikvah is located at Torah Academy, Wynnewood & Argyle Roads in Ardmore, (610) 642-8679. The Men's Mikvah is located at Congregation Raim Ahuvim, 5854 Drexel Road in Philadelphia, (215) 878-8477. The entrance is in the rear of the building. The keilim (dish) mikvah is located at the Torah Academy. It is accessible during the day. You will need the door combination to gain access. Under NO circumstances may it be used during Women's Mikvah hours. Contact Rebbitzin Tzippy Caplan at (610) 658-1967 or Rabbi Naftali Eisemann at (215) 473-4153, or try (610) 642-7870. Housing:

The community offers a wide variety of housing within the eruv, with even a larger selection now available following our eruv expansion. Lower priced row homes are available in Overbrook Park (Philadelphia). Larger single-family and twin (semi-detached) homes are available in the portions of Lower Merion Township's Wynnewood, Merion, and Ardmore communities that are within the eruv, as well as in the Greenhill Farms neighborhood in Philadelphia . Homes are available in many different styles and in many price ranges and are more affordable than comparable homes in the other Main Line Jewish communities. (Homes in the Philadelphia area are also far more affordable than most other Orthodox communities in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic as well!)

Rentals are also available, especially in Overbrook Park . For detailed information about rentals, please contact shul member Fred Tehrani at 610 399 3257.

Achdus (unity) is the watchword for Congregation Beth Hamedrosh. Although we are a diverse group, we are blessed to have a membership that respects our differences and celebrates our devotion to Torah Observant Judaism. We look forward to hosting you for Shabbos or during the week.
