So you have a website, URL redirect, or blog. You have your sales letter perfect, you have your affiliate links working, you have some traffic, and you are starting to get sales. Sound familiar? Many affiliate marketers get to this stage, realise that the hardest part of this whole experience is actually getting sales, and then give up. I like to call this the tweak and expose phase. Your site will need constant tweaking, and constant exposure to get more visitors and more conversions. Here are some tips and tricks I use to get through this phase.

Don't loose sight

The first and most important tip at this stage is not too lose hope or indeed lose track of what you set out to do in the first place. That's easier said that done, when your hit counter is still in the tens, and even more so if you are spending your hard earned cash on advertising. Be logical, all is not lost, you just need to have a rethink, sit down and write down on paper where you think you are going wrong.

Use the force - webstats are your best friend

I really can't emphasize this one enough, but I'll try: use your webstats. They should tell you instantly where you are going wrong. Your hosting provider should provide you with a decent tool for reporting your website statistics, if they don't it's time to change providers. Google also offer an excellent (and free) webstats service, Google Analytics, which you should probably take a look at: http://www.google.com/analytics.

To be more specific, you need to look at where visitors are entering and exiting your site, and how long they are spending on particular pages.

It's all about keywords

Remember search engines like Google are based on keywords, make sure you have researched your chosen keywords carefully. Use Overture's Inventory to check out the popularity of your keywords, also Google's Keyword Tool can give you extremely useful information on keyword popularity, and can give you some alternative keywords too. Finally use a keyword analyser to check the density of keywords on your site, there are lots around.

Don't underestimate offline advertising methods

Remember publicising your site online should only be one tool in your toolbox, offline advertising methods are also hugely successful. Take out an ad in your local paper, hand out flyers, there are lots of methods of getting word out. Also, don't forget to use your voice box and tell people, word of mouth is an excellent way of getting targeted visitors to your site.

Articles = Free publicity = Success

If your ranking on the major search engines isn't what it should be writing articles, and submitting them to article directories is one of the best forms to a) get targeted traffic to your site, and b) get a higher search engine ranking. Writing articles isn't difficult, make sure they are relevant to your site, and should generally be useful to other people. Don't forget to include a link to your site in the resource box. There are many many article directories online, submit your work to as many of these as possible.

That's about the bulk of it, follow those simple tips, and you shouldn't go far wrong. Good luck.
