The bermuda type grass seed is one of the most tough and drought tolerant of grassess you can use, it is perfect for those areas that get a lot of traffic such as play areas. The bermuda grass seed spreads very quickly and sometimes can invade areas where it is not wanted, it will thrive in hot conditions and needs less watering than other grassess which makes it ideal for drought conditions. With the bermuda grass being tough and traffic freindly it will produce a thick thatch, this needs to be considered when doing lawn maintainance and will need removing yearly.

The type of grasses known as the bentgrass are not drought resistant and require a very high standard of maintainance, it can be extremely vulnerable to insects and diseases and requires a regular watering regime combined with a strict fetilizing program. This type of grass is found to be used a lot by golf courses which is not a problem for them as they have plenty of staff around to look after it, but if you are looking for a low maintainance lawn then this is not the grass seed to use.

When considering grass seeds to start your garden lawn you need to think about the growing conditions in the area you live in, the basic rule is that if you live in the south then you should look at using warm season grass seeds that are heat and drought resistant. And if you live in the north then consider using grass seeds that thrive in the cooler conditions, also think of how much traffic your grass is going to recieve when established, a large amount of traffic requires a tougher type of grass.
