Recent research shows that vinflunine shows positive signs for treatment in patients who are living with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM).

MPM is an illness with limited treatment options.

New studies show that the treatment has been effective when applied to those with this fatal form of mesothelioma cancer.

Patients and Methods Involved in the Study

Patients who were eligible for enrollment in the study are those who had a historically confirmed diagnosis of the disease.

Prior chemotherapy or radiotherapy wasn't administered to the patients involved in the study.

Vinflunine is given in 10-minute infusions and was administered to the patients in a 21-day cycle.

Study Results

Sixty-seven patients were reportedly enrolled in the study; however, five were not assessable for tumor response.

Results show that there was a positive response rate in 13.8 percent of the patients.

The median survival was reportedly 10.8 months.

Common side effects of receiving the treatment were anemia, fatigue, constipation and nausea.

Researchers discovered that vinflunine can be given to patients with Malignant pleural mesothelioma in high doses and get an increased survival rate.
