Nose to the Grindstone
Oh, how I wish
I could just go home
Get some rest
Catch up on my sleep
Get away from my labor
Beneath which I'm buried deep
Surely there is more to life
Than this rigorous work
By which I'm abused by my employer
Who makes me to be his jerk
Dominates me like a dork
Stabs me unkindly like a fork
Than walks away with a smirk
With his head held high as a stork
Surely there is more to life
Than grudgingly doing
What I do not love
Won't You come quickly
And deliver me Almighty God above
For this is certainly not
What I imagine and dream of
Undoubtedly there must be more
For me your humble servant
Ready and willing to worship
Eager to wholeheartedly serve
To bless humanity with Your Word
Monetarily however it seems
I must toil tirelessly to provide
Put food on the table
Though I am well able
Academically and occupationally
That does not equate to work done happily
Though my heart is obedient and willing
Sometimes my current labor
I am certainly not feeling
If there be more for me
Open my eyes to clearly see
Order my feet and steps in the way
That I must go
Favor me mightily and let me know
What to do, how to go about it
Transformation and change
I deeply wish it
Want it for me and others
Friends, sisters, and brothers
Help me not be weary
Strengthen me daily
Change my perspective
Make me successful and effective.
Anoint me to impact the world
To uplift the risen Christ
For this cause
I shall give my life
If you want me like the colt
To stay tied and not bolt
Here I remain
Waiting on you
Ready to do
What you want me to.
