When we went traveled to New Zealand I packed all of my clothes in various sizes of plastic bags. At the one B&B I was getting out my clothes to wash and the owner was watching me. She was amazed at the plastic bags I had in my suitcase. She didn't know there are jumbo size bags down to the snack size bags.

Here are a few organizing ideas on how to use re-sealable bags that maybe you haven't thought of.

1. When I travel by plane I use the jumbo bags for all my clothes. Then if my bag is searched everything stays organized. And no gloved hands have handled my personal things.

2. When the season is over use bags for storing gloves and hats; they will stay clean and together when not being used and they are easy to store in containers when they are all together. Store other clothes in them too.

3. When painting (something I don't like to do) and I especially don't like to clean out my brushes; I use this trick to keep my brush moist until the room is done: put the brush in a plastic bag and secure tightly and place in the freezer. The next day when I am ready to paint again I take it out of the freezer 30 minutes before I am going to paint to let it thaw out. This saves a lot of time cleaning the brush if you will be using it again within a few days or even hours.

4. If you don't have a jewelry pouch when traveling put your jewelry in a snack size bag. At home keep your sterling silver jewelry in a plastic bag to keep it from tarnishing.

5. Keep craft items separated in zip lock bags, crayons, colored pencils, tape, books, and clay etc.

6. One more tip when traveling. Be sure to put your lotions, shampoo and other liquids in plastic bags in case they leak. My daughter went to Belgium to work for the summer and her shampoo exploded. She was sure happy she had taken the precaution of putting it in plastic.

7. I am a quilter and I place my projects in zip lock bags. This not only separates my projects but I can see what is inside and it is easy to take a project with me when I go to a retreat or to a class.

8. Pre-cut vegetables and keep them fresh in baggies. This cuts down prep time when it comes to fixing dinner.

9. Pre package after school snacks or travel snacks in baggies.

10. When traveling put your trip journal, colored pencils, tape, glue and white-out in a bag. This makes it easy to pull out of your suit case and record all the fun memories of your trip. In another bag place labels you pre-printed of friends address, stamps, and put the post cards you buy with them. When you have time to send the post cards everything is together and makes it easier to send. If you are traveling within your own country take post card stamps with you so you don't have to hunt for a post office.

When we use plastic-let's be thoughtful of our environment. We can reuse and recycle plastic bags many different ways.
