Coming to an Agreement on your New Furniture

One day while taking a trip to the furniture store, my spouse and I were discussing the type of bedroom furniture to get, but couldn't come to any agreement. We've always had our little stylistic differences, and so when it came to choosing furniture, there was certain to be some disagreement about what to get. Let me explain a bit.

When it comes to style, I have always been the kind of person who loves having a bit of history in things. Whether it is about movies, traveling or simply buying new furniture, I have always felt that we should buy something that brings the past into the present life and living.

My spouse on the other hand is almost the complete opposite. When we travel, it is always the new hot spot, or Las Vegas, or some dazzling spot that is sure to feature the next trend. So too with movies and furniture - it's the same looking around for something contemporary and chic.

There we were on our way to the store and we were arguing about what type of bed to purchase. My spouse wanted to get the new contemporary platform bed that had come up. These beds are generally lower to the ground giving a slight hobo feeling, an easy informal sense of living outside while yet living inside, a more modern feel of fast paced life.

Well you can imagine how I felt about that, for on the other hand I was definitely looking into getting more traditional bedroom furniture, and for the bed, something set on a nice high frame, with ornate designs and a comfortable mattress.

Of course we continued to argue all the way to the furniture store and then started to look at everything from sectional sofas, to dining room sets, until finally arriving at the bedroom section.

What did we agree upon in the end?

Well, we actually wanted to get two pieces, a bed and some nightstands, and we were certain that we didn't want to have two different styles in the same room, like a traditional looking bed with more contemporary nightstands, which would make for a very odd look. So the decision that we came to was to go with the more traditional look with a slight modern flair in the bedroom (which made me very happy). As for my spouse, we decided to buy one extra piece for the living room, a new very modern leather recliner. I have to admit, although it is quite contemporary, the design is nice enough to give it that special historic feel I've always liked.

The moral of the story is that even when two people with very different tastes are living in the same house, you can still come to an agreement when it comes to furnishing the house. In the end, the two very different styles of me and my spouse have actually made for a very original look, an interesting combination of the traditional and the contemporary, which, since we took the time to carefully pick out, looks quite exquisite. Of which we can both say we're completely happy with.
