Valentine's Day Gifts-Five Things to Not to Buy the Woman in Your Life for Valentine's Day

You may think you know your woman. Here are some suggestions to ensure that you will look like her hero this Valentine's Day

1. Chocolate if she's on a diet-and chances are she's always on a diet to some degree. There are chocolates that are low calorie and/or low sugar. These make bad gifts as well. You may think you're being sensitive; she'll think you think she's fat. It's a no-win. Leave the candy on the shelf.

2. Nothing that plugs in, unless she asks for it specifically. Most plug-in gifts are far too practical for Valentine's Day. Remember, as a gift, a vacuum cleaner sucks!

3. If she's thrifty, nothing expensive. If she's extravagant, something small yet very personal and poignant. This may require actually listening to her when she talks. Women will often drop hints, knowingly or not. Paying attention will get you LOTS of points.

4. Anything that YOU would like her to have, like a vacation to a hunting lodge. Bad call unless saving the world from the great bird or deer menace is something you KNOW she loves. Accompanying you while you do something you enjoy does not qualify as a gift for her.

5. A book you want her to read. Bad form. That says you think there's something wrong with her or you want her to agree with you on some issue. Not the best message to send on Valentine's Day-not if you want a romantic evening, that is!

Often the best gift you can give the woman you love is time with you. In this hectic world, time is precious. A weekend together, just the two of you might be perfect. If you can't afford it, YOU arrange for a relative to take the kids over night and spend it at home, alone, together. YOU arrange a nice dinner and YOU do the dishes. Whatever your traditional roles are, you take on hers for the day. Spend a little time and thought on what would make the woman in your life happiest. Then do it and enjoy what just ght be a great Valentine's Day.
