This very contagious infection has been with us for a very long time. You will be surprised that 80% of the population carry the virus that causes cold sore. Some people do not even know that they have this virus as they have never experienced the infection. There has not been a known cure for it though there are some medications that relieve the pain.

Abreva is one of the cold sore medications that has been recommended by FDA to heal this infection. You should start applying abreva the minute you start feeling a burning sensation, itchy or tingles on your lips. This medication heals the infection faster as it goes deep into your body and back to the outside. You should not share this medication with your family members or friends in order to avoid further spread of the herpes virus.

The other FDA recommended cold sore medication is viroxyn. It comes with an easy-to-use applicator. You should apply it on the infected area and it works within minutes of its application. This is because it works on the mature viruses leaving none to be reproduced. The infection takes 3-5 days to heal leaving no scars which means you will be yourself again within no time.

Gel antiperspirant is a good cold sore medication as the above mentioned. It should be applied at night when going to bed. The antiperspirant dries the sore while you are sleeping and the deodorant has a component that is anti-bacterial which makes the infection heal faster and also prevents secondary infection. Kissing, sharing of utensils and facial towels to be avoided if you do not want to spread the infection.
