However, it is a large mistake. Young adult children can be affected by parents' divorce much more that little children who cannot really comprehend the problems with their parents. Late in life parental divorce would have some negative effect on parent/child relationship based on the data from National Survey of Families and Households (in the United States of America) of about 13,017 subjects between the ages 19 or older but not older than 34. The results of late divorces on adult children can be more dramatic if their parents do not understand their responsibility to be sincere and honest with their children. Parents should understand their children still feel love and devotion to their parents even though they do not live together and have their own families and children. For most, there is always that resistance to change because of its sometimes disruptive effects. In a parental divorce, for example, the plight of the children are sometimes overlooked or taken for granted more so if they are already of age. Some surmise that he or she is "old enough" not to be affected and that they will understand or just accept their parents' decision. On the contrary, as in any emotional upheaval, "later life parental divorce has been proven to cause emotional problems" (Haba) be it mentally or emotionally which could lead to problems in developing future relationships. Some recent researches have shown that late divorces can greatly affect unsuccessful family lives of adult children as they unconsciously reflect their parents' family life models. Parents will always be responsible for their children's success and happiness regardless the age and distance which separates them.
