When To Consult A Cosmetic Dentist

A cosmetic dentist is trained to do many procedures to not only restore a smile, but to restore and enhance proper function. If a problem with your teeth has been caused by misalignment or occlusion - the way you bite due to the shape and alignment of the jaw and teeth - then that must be corrected before the problem it has caused can be fixed.

If work such as veneers, crowns or bonding is done on the teeth without fixing the root cause of the problem it will not last because the same thing will happen to it as happened to your natural teeth. Very often your usual dentist will be able to tell you when a cosmetic dentist is needed. But in some cases such as after an injury when you have had to go to hospital, a doctor who sees you will advise treatment by a cosmetic dentist. A cosmetic dentist is also trained to treat injury to the face that includes the mouth, gums, teeth and jaws.

Very often when teeth are still in good condition but are simply misaligned, a cosmetic dentist can advise what should be done to help fix the problem. It is not only teenagers or children who may need braces or other orthodontic correction. Many adults who were not fortunate enough to have such a procedure when they were young can have it done when they are older and can afford it.

Adults who have spent many years with a smile that is not as good as it could be are delighted with the results of cosmetic dentistry. It gives them a great deal more self-esteem to know that their smile is now something to be admired rather than hidden.
