Increasingly, experts are agreeing about a multi-disciplinary approach, consisting in the intervention of a sexologist, confirming that it can deal more effectively with feminine sexual dysfunctions. It may include individual or couple sessions. These sessions can help to soothe the frustration, stress, anxiety, tension and conflict caused by marital dysfunction. It will also help to increase self-esteem which is often undermined in such cases.

There are five main approaches in sex-therapy:

Cognitive-behavioral therapy: it aims at breaking the vicious cycle of negative thoughts with regard to sexuality (and resulting behavior) by identifying and trying to defuse them.

Systemic approach: it focuses on the interaction of spouses and its effect on their sex life; the sex-analysis attempts to resolve internal conflicts at the root of sexual problems by analyzing the imagination and the erotic fantasies.

Existential humanistic approach: It leads the persons to discover their perceptions of their difficulties and to a better sexual self-knowledge.

Sex-corporal approach: It reflects the indivisible links; body - emotions - intellect, which aims at a satisfactory sexuality, both on the personal and relational level.

Note. In hospital, consultations are often free, but the waiting list is long. In addition, you need to have a file in the hospital and be referred by a doctor. However, some services operate independently, consultations with a doctor are free, but those with a sexologist are charged.

Complementary Approaches

Cordyceps: Five double blind studies with placebo conducted in China on a total of nearly 1 000 patients (men and women) seem to show that Cordycep, 3 g daily, is effective in boosting sexual function déficiente24.

Determination

Traditionally, it is recommended to take 5 g to 10 g of mushroom powder daily. During the studies, an extract of cultured Cordyceps, 3 g daily, has often been used. One should consult a practitioner trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine to obtain a personalized treatment.

DHEA: Test results indicate that the dehydroepiandrosteron (DHEA, an anabolic steroid hormone) could help women who suffer from decreased libido after the menopause (especially among women aged 70 and over). The same effect was observed among women with low libido caused by deficient Adrenal glands that are responsible for the production of DHEA in the body. The sale of DHEA is banned in some countries (Canada, etc.) while it is allowed elsewhere (in the United States, it is OTC).

There are commercial products presented as natural DHEA. It is usually yam extracts, soy or red clover containing the diosgenin, a phytoestrogen. There is no scientific evidence indicating that the body can convert this substance into diosgenin dehydroepiandrosteron. It is a process that requires a series of chemical syntheses that can not be reproduced in the laboratory. Thus, there is no "natural" source of DHEA. Only the body produces it naturally, when it is old enough to do so. Production gradually decreases from the age of 20.

L-Arginine: Researchers have obtained successful results in a double blind clinical trial, conducted among 77 women who were given either a placebo or a popular preparation containing Arginine, the johncortis of ginkgo and ginseng, vitamins and minerals. After four weeks of use, 73.5% of women who received this product have experienced a better sex life, against 37.2% for the placebo group.

Anyway, herbal medicine is a medicine that has been existing from centuries and there are so many herbs in nature that could cure sexual dysfunction: such as impotence, frigidity and premature ejaculation. Herbal experts know exactly how to manipulate herbs by mixing the right dosages. The main advantage of herbal drugs remains in being free from any side-effect.
